Student Voice - Mental Health Initiative

Posted on 09/11/2021

Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR). YPAR is a research method where youth and adults partner to improve the conditions of youths lives and their communities through research initiatives. We will do this by working together to create research questions and conduct research to explore answers and identify solutions.

In this YPAR project, secondary students from SMCDSB will be selected to be co-researches in a yearlong project where they will ultimately make recommendations to SMCDSB school board system leaders around student mental health priorities. These student co-researchers will also receive information and training on topics related to school mental health, youth mental health, system work, and research (ethics, data collection, data analysis, and presentation skills). Students will be eligible to claim up to 20 Ontario Secondary School Volunteer hours for their participation in this project.
